Materials Science and Engineering / Metallurgicall Engineering - like other technical and engineering disciplines grounded in the basic sciences of mathematics, physics, and chemistry - is one of the most fundamental and diverse fields of engineering. The scope of this discipline extends, on the one hand, to the production, extraction, and recycling of metals and materials, and on the other, to processing, manufacturing, and synthesis of advanced materials. In addition, it plays an indispensable role in materials identification, selection, and characterization, welding and joining, corrosion science and surface/coating engineering, as well as nanomaterials, biomaterials, and ceramic materials, among other areas. Undoubtedly, success across such a wide range of fields - aligned with industrial needs - relies on the presence of talented students, highly motivated staff, capable researchers, and experienced faculty members, all of whom are well represented. Achievements such as top rankings in national scientific Olympiads and sports competitions by students, the strong presence of faculty among leading and highly cited researchers, effective collaboration with industry through industrial projects, and the publication of numerous specialized textbooks and monographs by faculty members are clear indicators of this success. Furthermore, the availability of up-to-date educational programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels has significantly facilitated progress along this path. It is hoped that through collective commitment and sustained collaborative effort, the research enterprise will be further strengthened, and that the honors and achievements of this faculty, the university, and ultimately Iran will continue to grow.
