THE RESEARCH GROUP OF PRODUCTION AND SYNTHESIS OF MATERIALS

The research group of Production and Synthesis of Materials deals with processes to produce engineering materials. The production of materials is a general terminology, which includes (i) the production of raw materials such as metals like iron, copper, aluminum, zinc, lead, nickel, cobalt, and even valuable metals like silver, gold, palladium, platinum, etc., and (ii) production of more value-added materials such as industrial alloys, composites, super-alloys, shape-memory materials and the like. Recycling of these materials is one of the research areas of this group. In recent years, with the advent of advanced materials and development of nanoscale science, the synthesis of new materials such as carbon structures (carbon nanotubes, graphene, aerographs, etc.), nanomaterials, semiconductors, catalysts/electrocatalysts, and the like, has become the issues of interest to this group.
This group of materials and metallurgical engineering frames issues and problems related to metal and metal compounds production in the areas of chemical knowledge (mineral and organic), thermodynamic and kinetic principles and transfer phenomena. Production means to obtain metals, alloys or metal compounds from primary (natural) sources and secondary sources (recovery); steel making, production of iron, copper, aluminum, zinc, lead, nickel, cobalt and valuable metals such as gold, palladium, platinum, and silver fall into this category. In addition, the production of all kinds of alloys, super-alloys and composites are within the framework of this category.
